Gir Cow bread is known for its hardiness and disease resistance. Gir Cows are also called Bhadwari, Desan, Gujarati, Katiavari, Sorthi and Surati. It originated in the southern forest of Kathiawar of Gujarat, Gir Cows are also found in Maharashtra and neighboring states of Rajasthan. The main skin color is dark red or chocolate brown spots or sometimes black or red. Their horn is usually curved and looks like a “half moon” in appearance.
Milk yield varies from 1200 to 1800 kg per lactation for Gir Cows.
